Google’s February 2026 Discover core update gives locally relevant, original and timely content a stronger role. For brands in the UK and UAE, that is a clear signal: useful local stories can reach people before they actively search for a service.
Discover is the personalised feed shown across Google surfaces. Unlike standard search, it can introduce an article to an interested reader without an exact query. Google says its 2026 update aims to surface more content from sites based in a user’s country, reduce clickbait and reward in-depth work that demonstrates expertise on a topic.
Why local brand stories matter now
A generic “five marketing trends” article can be produced anywhere. A well-reported story about a London development, a Dubai hospitality launch or an Abu Dhabi conference gives readers a reason to choose your page. Local specificity creates relevance, while original interviews, photography and video create evidence.
Choose a recognisable local angle
Start with a change, event or question affecting your actual customers. Examples include a new neighbourhood opening, a seasonal campaign window, an industry event or a shift in how local buyers make decisions. Write for a defined person in a defined market—not for “everyone”.
Use a strong but accurate headline
Discover can reward compelling presentation, but Google explicitly says it is reducing sensational and clickbait content. Promise only what the article delivers. Replace vague superlatives with a useful outcome: “A Filming Checklist for Dubai Hotel Launches” is clearer than “This One Trick Will Transform Your Brand”.
Lead with original visuals
Commissioned photography and video stills give a story authenticity. Use a large, relevant featured image, descriptive alternative text and a clean crop that works on mobile. If the article includes a video, add a short written introduction and a transcript or key takeaways so the page remains accessible and understandable.
Demonstrate topic expertise over time
Google’s update looks at expertise topic by topic. One isolated post is unlikely to build the same authority as a connected series. A property agency could publish neighbourhood guides, buyer questions and project case studies. A clinic could create clinician-led explainers. A restaurant group could document openings, menus, suppliers and events.
Link related articles together and connect them to the relevant service page. This creates a useful journey for readers and helps search systems understand the relationship between your content.
Plan separately for the UK and UAE
A shared brand voice can still respect local differences. Use UK spelling and context for British readers. For UAE campaigns, consider Arabic and English presentation, local customs and the calendar around Ramadan, Eid and National Day. Do not manufacture local authority: feature real people, places and production knowledge.
A four-week Discover-ready workflow
- Week 1: identify one timely local question using customer conversations and Search Console.
- Week 2: film an expert answer and collect original stills.
- Week 3: publish an in-depth article with clear headings and internal links.
- Week 4: distribute short edits on social media and update the article with audience questions.
The opportunity
The latest Discover update favours the qualities strong brands should already want: local usefulness, honest presentation, original media and consistent expertise. Treat every shoot as the start of a searchable content package, not a single deliverable.
